Current Volunteer Opportunities

As alumni of IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, you are one of our greatest assets. Alumni engagement with students and with each other is critical to the success of the law school and its graduates.  Opportunities exist throughout the year to give back by conducting informational or mock interviews, hosting a group of students for dinner, serving on an advisory board or mentoring students or fellow alumni. This page is updated regularly with current volunteer needs.

Alumni Ambassadors

Help us recruit the best and brightest law students to IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law by serving as an Alumni Ambassador, an opportunity for alumni to play a vital role in the admissions process at Chicago-Kent. Contact takes place February through April, and alumni residing anywhere in the world can participate. Our goal is to match alumni with students who have similar backgrounds or interests. Alumni-Student ConneKtions Week

Alumni-Student ConneKtions Week is a week-long extravaganza of opportunities for students to network and connect with Chicago-Kent alumni and gain valuable career-related skills. Activities include informational interviews, mock interviews, job shadowing, Coffee ConneKtions and a networking reception.

Alumni Advisor Network

Serve as a resource to students to discuss practice trends, legal markets across the nation, and other career-related topics with students, while helping them build their legal network. Act as a resource for students applying for positions within your organization. Sign up to serve as an Alumni Advisor when you complete your MyKent profile.

Chicago-Kent Patent Hub

Launched by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in 2011, the Patent Pro Bono Program is currently being offered in all 50 states. The Chicago-Kent Patent Hub is coordinating services for inventors in Illinois. The program facilitates the placement of qualified, under-resourced inventors with the pro bono legal assistance of a licensed patent attorney. Volunteer attorneys will be matched with qualified inventors based on the field of the invention and the preferred technical fields of expertise of the attorney. More information.

ConneKtions @ Dinner

ConneCKtions @ Dinner  Week is an opportunity for alumni in Chicago to host a small group of students and 2017 graduates at local restaurants or open their homes to students for small dinner parties, bringing together students, alumni and faculty in a friendly environment for good food, conversation, camaraderie and to build a stronger Chicago-Kent community. ConneKtions @ Dinner 2018 will take place October 30 - November 3, 2017. Learn more.

Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring

Mentoring provides a unique opportunity for new lawyers to gain professional guidance and practical knowledge from seasoned attorneys. The Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentoring program is a year-long program run in conjunction with the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. More than 1,200 lawyers, through more than 75 organizations, have participated in the program since its inception in 2011. Both mentors and mentees earn six Illinois  Professional Responsibility CLE credits upon completion. More information.

Young Alumni Council

 

The Young Alumni Council was created in Fall 2009 to strengthen bonds among recent graduates of Chicago-Kent. Membership is open to all graduates of the past 10 years who commit to regularly attend meetings and events and make a financial contribution to the law school. The Young Alumni Council plans and implements social and professional development opportunities. The organization also collaborates with student organizations to bridge the transition from student to alumnus/a. 

Women in Law Mentoring

Each fall, the Alumni Association works with the Society of Women in Law to pair current students with legal professionals, including practicing attorneys, judges, legislative advocates, as well as those who utilize their law degrees in a corporate or non-traditional environment. Mentors are expected to meet with their mentees at least three times during the academic year and are encouraged to attend a kick-off reception at the law school. More information.
