Peter Roskam, Class of 1989
U.S. Representative for the 6th Congressional District of Illinois
Peter Roskam has represented the 6th District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2007 and is currently the Chief Deputy Whip, ranking fourth among House Republican leaders. He also serves on the Committee on Ways and Means. Prior to his election to Congress, Roskam served in the Illinois General Assembly as a Representative from 1993 to 1998 and as a State Senator from 2000 to 2006. In the Illinois Senate, Roskam sponsored legislation giving the Illinois Supreme court authority to reverse a death penalty sentence and sponsored a law increasing penalties for repeat DUI offenders. He also authored or co-authored fourteen bills to cut taxes. Previously, Roskam was a partner in the law firm Salvi, Roskam & Maher, a personal injury firm, and served as the Executive Director of Educational Assistance, Ltd., a scholarship program for disadvantaged children founded by his father.
